PLEASE NOTE: This summit is designed for those looking to push the limits in large surf and extreme conditions. All students must be exceptionally comfortable in the ocean . This course also requires at least ONE of the following pre-requisite qualifications:

  • Attendee of a previous BWRAG Summit

  • Completion of the BWRAG Surf Responder online course

  • Active member a public safety agency (lifeguard, Fire, EMS, Harbor Patrol, etc.) with extensive experience in ocean environments, or military rescue swimmer/special forces

  • Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis for prior lifeguards and/or those in the the emergency medical field. Please email info@bwrag.com with details about your qualifications and reason of interest in this training.

Join us for BWRAG’s 2-day Ocean Risk Technician Summit in Half Moon Bay, CA October 13-14.

The BWRAG Ocean Risk Technician level II course is an intensive two-day training program designed for experienced water safety leaders, surf responders, and ocean athletes committed to elevating their skills in surf survival, rescue, and emergency response in extreme conditions. This summit blends specialized modules in surf-specific rescue operations with advanced BLS skills and medical interventions.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Participants will undergo a structured curriculum that integrates both classroom learning and real-world, on-water scenario application. The summit emphasizes leadership, decision-making under pressure, and mastery of advanced rescue and medical techniques tailored for high-risk surf environments.

COMPONENTS

CPR

  • Participants will receive formal education in CPR, AED use, Oxygen administration, and high-performance team-based resuscitation practices.

Advanced On-Water Rescue Skills

  • High-performance surf rescue maneuvers using boards, sleds, and fins.

  • Victim extrication in heavy water and challenging surf zones.

  • Surf zone risk assessment and incident command principles.

Medical Skills for Surf Responders

  • Advanced trauma management, including bleeding control, fractures, and spinal precautions in aquatic settings.

  • Airway management and patient stabilization in remote surf environments.

  • Surf responder medical scenarios with multi-victim simulations.

Scenario-Based Practical Training

  • Students will participate in realistic, high-stress scenarios combining surf rescue operations and medical response. Emphasis is placed on communication, coordination, and leadership in dynamic environments.
